Being multi-talented can feel both empowering and overwhelming. From toy-making in Junior High to mastering graphic design, web development, videography, and 3D modeling, my journey has been a process of discovery and adaptation. The key? Prioritizing passions and leveraging diverse skills to create something extraordinary.
In today's fast-paced world, being multi-talented can seem like both a blessing and a curse.
On one hand, having multiple skills opens doors to numerous opportunities and makes you adaptable in various fields. On the other hand, it can be overwhelming to juggle multiple interests and excel in them all.
As someone who has navigated the complexities of being multi-talented, I’ve come to realize the true potential that lies in harnessing these diverse abilities. My journey began at a young age when I discovered my knack for creativity and design.
In Junior High School, I crafted toys from rubber, aluminium, and plastic, creating everything from toy cars to planes. This early passion led me to enrol in an art workshop after High School, where I honed my skills as an artist, skills I had first discovered in primary school.
During my first year studying Mechanical Engineering in a tertiary institution, my growing passion for design led me to take a Graphic Design class and subsequently, AutoCAD training in machine design. This blend of creativity and technical skill set the stage for my future endeavours.
Towards my final years in school, I felt a pull towards entrepreneurship, which led me to study Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Maryland. In 2015, I started running my second registered company, learning web development from my teammates to fast-track our company’s website development.
My journey took another turn in 2017 when I volunteered at a multimedia company, where I gained experience as a videographer and motion graphics artist. In 2018, I collaborated with an architect to create a 3D model of a building, further diversifying my skill set.
However, balancing the demands of clients who saw me as a graphics designer, videographer, developer, content writer, UI/UX designer, and more was a challenge. The pressure to excel in these diverse roles was immense.
In 2020, after the pandemic, I reorganized myself to focus on my core strength: design in every form. This shift allowed me to let other talents complement my primary passion.
Being multi-talented has indeed been a journey of discovery and adaptation. While it can be overwhelming at times, it has also opened doors to incredible opportunities and growth. Embracing my diverse abilities has allowed me to innovate and inspire, proving that being multi-talented is truly a blessing.
The key is to embrace your talents, prioritize your passions, and find a balance that allows you to thrive. Remember, being multi-talented is not about doing everything at once but about leveraging your diverse skills to create something extraordinary.
